SRG 1/144 Alteisen Complete

So, the end result of the project SRG 1/144 Alteisein reboot is finally here. It can be said as my first completed kotobukiya kit.

Since this is the first kotobukiya kit, there are lot of thing for me to test and check whether how should i modified the kit. I'm using some simple concept as usual such as adding pla-plate, scribing panel line and re-paint the entire kit. One of the techniques that i test on this kit is adding "metal pin" by using normal paper clip into the kit (you may find it on the legs and shoulder) through some drilling process. Another modification was done on the waist which i cut off the lower torso from the waist unit and add a joint in between it so it can have turn-able waist. Since it is the first time on adding "metal pin" and adding joint for the waist, it can be said as a test and i didn't take any photo on it as WIP because i don't know will it work out or not. Before we go into the next paragraph, here is the check list for paint:

-Mr.Surfacer 1000 as the base (prime)

-White (Mr.Color White)

-Red (Mr.Color red combine with Mr.Color Metallic red)

-Black (Mr.Color Black)

-Gold (Mr.Color Gold)

-Panel line (Enamel wash from Tamiya dark blue) and (the Mitsubishi 0.1 pen)

The painting process for this kit is quite simple since the original color scheme of this kit is not that complicated. Most of the part are separately and only minimal masking require legs left arm's canon. I was lazy to mix out the yellow or orange so i replace it with gold color. The enamel wash technique really helps a lot on reducing the masking process.

In terms of posing this kit for photo, this is the process that make me headache. First, i thought the paint will tighten the joints because the joint was too loose but i think the original design is like this. I should say this is the design flaw for the joint even though this kit does came with polycaps. This is the reason why only 20 photos with few poses are made. The worst part is, the articulations for this kit is extremely limited and the oversize shoulders make things even worse. Good thing is this kit come with great proportion and all i need to do is get the right angle for those shots.

Enough for the words, lets check the photos.

I was planning to get other version of this kit but after working on it, i'm really not sure should i go for it. Since the upgrade version of this kit "Altesen Riese" is quite expensive, the plan is still far far away. I think that's all for this kit now.

Blog Maintenance

New year, new beginning. You might found some of the old post from the page gone or some post without pictures because my picasa album overload. I need to delete some old photos which i will retake and resize to post it here again later.

The first thing that you will see are the background and header change. Pictures and post for Sd gundam is deleting. Since most of my Sd were use for practicing and testing before i start painting or using airbrush, most of it are done with pretty bad result. So i decided to remove it and may add on back after i re-paint them again. Some of the non-grade 1/100 post will be delete too because it was just some snap and fit build with large size photos. Last thing that you might found missing are those post with news or hobby magazines.

After few years, my picasa album quota finally give up. I realize there is limitation on the upload size when it reach about 60% of space use. Since then, i resize most of my photos to 200kb. This time its not just re-organizing blog but also the picasa album which serve as the backbone of the blog as well. I think i should buy the extra space from picasa album but i always having problem with my debit card (damn.. ).

1/144 Alteisen (restarting)

I bought this kit almost one year ago and i got it pre-assemble few weeks after i bought it. As for now, since the next review kit is on its way, i guess this is the best time for me to clear my backlog a bit. So, here we have this SRG 1/144 Alteisen. Every time i saw it, it keep on telling me "buy my variation, buy my variation".. and every time i visit local hobby shop and saw his brother, it keep on whispering "get me, get me". Haha. I'm really wish to get the 1/144 Alteisen Riesen and the progressive version. If i'm not wrong, the progressive version should have better articulation than this normal version. Whatever it is, get this done before the next review kit arrive.

What i'm trying to do on this kit was adding more panel line and pla-plate but the mood is just not there for me to make the right shape. Second thing that i want to do on this kit was add waist joint so the entire waist unit is turn-able. Well, i actually made it but feels like the joint a bit fragile. Hope it will stay as long as possible.

This is what you get after getting the waist joint. I do remember i pointed out some problem of this kit which is the joints for most of its parts are very fragile in its WIP post. Parts are keep on falling down when i try to put pla-plate and draw panel line.

Well, that's all for now. My boss called me and ask me to bring him for buying model kits few days ago. It was the largest loots i ever see (in real) in front of me and he ask me to build all for him within 4 months. Its crazy and i'm very exciting now. Maybe i should put on a list of those items here. MG Hyakushiki Complete

Yes.. Yes.. Yes.. I'm not just complete the model kit but also the collection of Zeta A.E.U.G unit that i wanted. I know there are more MS in that team such as Mk II titan color unit 2 and 3 as well as Rick Dias but these are not the prior model kit that i want to collect from that series. So, here we have the MG Hyakushiki completed by me.

Since part one and part two already discuss from box art to the detail and articulation of this kit, maybe i should wrap up the modification description here. From the first photo, it doesn't show much different on the modified but may be the second photo will. The painting process for this time was quite easy but it still require two painting session for me to complete the entire painting process due to the heat from the compressor. Here is the paint list used on this kit:

-Mr.Surfacer 1000 as the base

-Dark blue (combination of Mr.Color Character blue, Mr.Color Metallic Blue and Mr.Color Metallic Black)

-Blood red (Mr.Color Metallic red)

-Silver (Mr.Metal Silver Chrome)

-Black (Mr.Color Metallic Black)

-Panel line on the pipe ( Tamiya Enamel Dark Blue)

These are the paint i need to complete this project, quite simple isn't it. The color scheme that i used was almost same from the manual. The only part i changed was the hydraulic pipe in the legs which i painted with red and silver and the thrusters on the back pack with silver. I'm using Tamiya enamel dark blue this time as for panel in those red color pipe. For me, it was a new method since i use airbrush spray directly to those pipe and use wash method to achieve the result show in the picture (number 8 from top). I learn this method from Youtube which show modelers from Japan which their work also features in Dengeki Magazine and Hobby Magazine (there are lot of techniques that i finally have the tools to learn and practice about it). I will try to show as much video as i can into here later.

I do mentioned that this kit is hard to pose or create dynamic shots for photos and yes it is (for me). The solution i have by not putting on heavy modification to make this model kit look dynamic in the photo is by using a wide-angle with close distance focus lens but not only that, the waist joint plays important role to make it look the action look more dynamic. Wide angle with close distance focus lens can stretch the object in the photo look longer if you have camera with wide-angle lens and the effect will be more stronger with wider angle lens. It also will help for making the object posing in the photos look more dynamic. Too bad i only have the 18-55mm wide angle lens which have the film format equivalent to 28mm focal length and the closest range for the lens to focus is about 25cm away. My only solution (other than changing the lens) is to crop the photos.

Alright, enough for the words and let pictures tell the rest:

Before i wrap it up, as you can see from the photos which there are lot of finger prints on the model kit due to its surface was gloss gold plated. I intend to clean it actually but after playing with it for different post, i just lazy to clean it again. So, my tips while playing with this kit for photo, wear gloves.

MG Hyakushiki Modification part 1

So, this is the modification part I'm talking about in the previous post. I never thought of using this way to modify the abdomen part until i check because i'm lazy to check the WIP post in different forum, I will only check the end result normally but patience is a must for studying gunpla modification tutorial. As for this modification, I learn it from the modeler-g website. The author of the kit did this modification using a HGUC 1/144 Hyakushiki and he posted few WIP photos in that post which provide sufficient information for me to get what i want but i still can't get it to the perfect measurement i want at the end. What i'm not satisfy with the end result is the shape of the pla-plate was not perfect enough for me and the end result can be better if i add another 1 or 2mm of pla-plate into it. Nothing i can change since i have paint everything now. So, have a look on the this WIP process and i'm really hope you guys can give some comments for me to improve my future modification.

This is what it looks like before the modification begin.

Six piece (not six packs) of 0.5mm pla-plate glue together. The measurement that i cut out was 2cm X 3cm before it stick to the lower torso.

Cut out the ball joint and sand the cutting area to provide smooth surface.

Stick the pla-plate and cut out the shape of the pla-plate according to the lower torso shape. This is the hardest part for me because the lower torso come with many different edge (i will be death if it come it round shape). After shaping the pla-plate, use different grid sand paper to smooth the surface. I should apply putty to make sure the surface even before sanding but the putty i had become "dry" before i'm able to use it T_T.

Drill a hole at the center for slotting back the ball joint.

From modifying the ball joint for the 1/100 NG Astray's neck, i think i have enough experience to deal with the original after cutting it out. First, drill a hole in the middle of the ball joint. Slot in the tiny metal rod (from paper clip).

The orange color part was cut from SD Sangokuden kit's runners (because it's thicker). Drill a hole on the orange color part and slot in the rest of the tiny metal rod into it. Apply glue to stick the orange color part and ball joint together.

And here we have the end result. the reason why i need to add the orange color part to the ball joint is because i need the create stronger attachment for the ball joint after slot it into the pla-plate (glue applied at the outer are of orange color part before slot back into the pla-plate). To make sure everything hold firmly, i leave some extra part of the metal rod out of the ball joint and bend it to make sure the ball joint will not slip out from the tiny metal rod. Additional two pla-plate to hold the ball joint.

MG Hyakushiki Review Part 3

It seems that i'm trying to rush everything here. This review should be done last year on December and that's why i need to complete it as soon as possible but most important thing is i must cover everything that i should for the review even though i try to rush everything.

I always saw lots of great video review of model kit in Youtube and number of viewers were a lot too. I'm not sure why that i have some weird feeling here. I do sell video camcorder and study something about video recording. When i saw their review, the good thing is those video come with lots of information but some basic requirements of video recording was not there such as steadiness, focusing and scenes duration (One scene for the entire video). I do have problems with these basic but i try to minimize it as much as possible. On top of that, i feel my video is very boring too ( i guess most of you will notice it) because lack of information within the video. Until now, i'm still thinking of improve it and i'm seriously want to know what you want and your comments. Thanks.

MG Hyakushiki Review part 2

So, here we have the part 2 of the review for MG Hyakushiki. As what you see from, this snap and fit version was almost same as the complete version if you decide not to do anything on the golden plate armor.

So, first check on the proportion of the kit. I mentioned about the abdomen or lower torso area was a bit too short, then i feel it was quite acceptable after i complete it but again my first feeling came back to haunt me after slot in the palm unit. I think i'm really need to do something on it. Other than the lower torso, the second proportion flaw that i complain was the feet. It can be better if it slimmer a but it will require either cutting or sanding which will damage the gold plate part. Therefore, i'm not planning to do anything on it. These are the only flaws that i complain.

In terms of articulation, we can't expect much from a old kit. There is one pictures in this post show how much i can bend its knees, feet and arms. If we check from side way, i can say the articulation is good enough for this kit but what make it look bad is the two proportion flaws that i mentioned (in my opinion). Although refining or repairing the proportion flaws can't help on articulation but sharpening the shape of certain part will make the whole kit loo more dynamic even the kit has limitation on the articulations.So, can it pose? yes but... depends..

In terms of detail of this kit, not much but sufficient. Although most of the snap and fit procedures were simple since this kit doesn't come with lot of parts but most of the area are cover properly. For example, the back of the skirt armors was cover which not like what we have from MG Strike gundam. Pipes at arms were molded separately and this kit should only require very few masking process for painting. If you think of adding panel line or plate armors, there are still lot of empty space around the torso (don't mess with the gold plate armors!!! i just feel its a waste if someone sand it off for mod. Haha).

The hydraulic pump was highlighted in the box and the manual. I guess it was one of the advance technology that Bandai introduce for early MG model. I saw lots of people paint it red and i think i will do the same thing too.

There are two ways of spreading the legs but it might damage the gold plate armors (like what i mentioned before, the gold plate armors need to be sacrifice if i want to mod certain area of this kit). Since the legs can't spread wide, i need to think of other way to make the kit look dynamic such as using wide-angle lens from the camera but again, the feet look too bulk!!! Actually there is some method i can improve the legs for spreading wider by modding the crotch area but the risk can be quite high.

Playing with wireless flash setting and the flash exposure wipe out the stand completely. Haha.

Bouncing flash setting still the best.

In order to hold the beam saber, it need to swap the palm unit (manipulator) because the other four fingers was design to hold beam rifle and "rocket launcher". It might be a bit troublesome but it does provide better grip compare to those MG palm from older Wing series and Seed/Destiny series.

Do you feel anything missing from here. No but it will look better if it come with terminator eyes just like the Delta Plus. I saw someone made it actually.

Since it was one of the Char's MS and it come with golden plate armors, I think there are lots of Char's fan like about this kit. So, if you think of modifying this kit, don't mess with the gold plate armor version please (i can feel this version is going to extinct soon, haha) and get the normal version or the Balute system version. There are some recent poll indicate that MG Hyakushiki ver.2 will come around this year. I wish this is true but I don't think Bandai will give us the gold plate armor version. Some of you might don't care about it since we can paint our own gold color on it ( i do enjoy use gold color paint but i prefer the result to be like this). In terms of modifying this kit completely, I'm sure there are lot of great work there because this kit do have lot of potential. I remember I saw one modeler made this into the Son Goku look from Chinese tale story version (not Dragon Ball!!!) in one of the Bakuc Malaysia (you can search it in my blog from "Bakuc post"). I'm going to mod my soon and what are you waiting for........

MG Hyakushiki Review Part 1

I'm back with MG Hyakushiki review here this time. If you remember the poll that i made few months ago, this was the kit that have the highest vote and therefore i choose this kit as the review kit this time. This project should have start and done on November but due too many of things happened in November and December, i had to postpone this review. I think i has mentioned before that i always wanted to get this kit and today i finally get it and doing a review for it. There is one thing always haunted me for not getting this kit especially this version because as what we can for other version were either come in yellow beige color or the brown gold color for the HD version. This is the only version that i feel best suit for this MS because the anime want to show it really in gold color but of course the gold color in the anime was not like what we saw from Akatsuki in Gundam Seed Destiny. And the curse of the gold plated kit, Bandai always like to make plated kit in limited edition which make us difficult to get one of it. In my country here, the normal version and the HD version were cost around RM 140- RM 150 ++ but this cost about RM 169 and most shop only carry.. very very few units. So if you think of making money from gunpla for limited item, this might be a good consideration. Although this gold plated version was so special, some people don't like it actually. One of the reason that people don't like the kit might due to difficulty of handling those gold plated part on the cutting process from the runners. Once you screw up, it is extremely hard to recover (there are some solutions such as applying gold trim "paper") and since this gold plated version is more expensive due to it's "gold plated part", those who think to re-paint or re-mod this kit might not favor to this version. As for me, some of you know my style on modding (low level or simple type mod... XD) my model kit and that is the reason i pick this version.

Not like most of the UC fans, I only saw it from the ZZ series but not the Z series anime but the action from the ZZ series is good enough for me to think of what pose should made in part 2 of the review. Unfortunately, ZZ series was more kiddy type as compare to the Z series in my opinion although i haven't watch the Z series (it just my own feelings after watching some short clip of Z series). As for the design on this MS, it look great in the anime (the real kit seems a bit out in terms of its proportion). Weapons come with this MS is simple as it only come with one beam rifle, bazooka and two beam saber. I was wondering why this MS doesn't come with any defense equipment or mechanism such as shield. Does it share the same defense system with the Akatsuki (from GSD series) beam reflector armor from its gold plated armor? or it has the fastest agility to avoid all incoming attack (but i don't see it got lot of vernier or thruster)? I think i should check it out from the Z series. Maybe i should let you guys to check out the photos before i continue...

Some how the color from the boxart for this MS look even better (IMO) than the real kit or the MS in the anime.

From the manual, you can see most of the assembling process are pretty straightforward. No mesh pipe, no transformation joint or lot of duplicated parts but you have to be extra careful on cutting out the parts from the runners so it won't mess up the gold plated parts. Same as cleaning nub marks as well.

Some gold plated parts are come as the pictures above but some are come with normal joint for the runners and gold plated parts. Therefore, some of the gold plated parts are actually unavoidably spoil when it needed to cut out from the runners but luckily, most of this spoil area of the gold plated parts are in hiding spot.

There are 13 runners include one polycap runner. As there are only few runners come in this kit, most of the part doesn't come with inner frame although it is a MG.

I was quite worry about the red color pipe was come in gold color and mod together with the arms armor but luckily it was mod separately. It was something out of the expectation despite it is an out MG kit.

Like what i said just now, most of the part doesn't come with inner frame, this happen to the waist unit and torso. Good thing is the assembling process become simpler and since there are not much gimmick for the torso and waist unit to show off.

And this is the best part, most of the part for the head unit are come in gold plated parts which means i don't have to paint the head unit.

This is my first time encounter with this kind of palm design in MG kit. The thumbs are not moveable while other four finger were mod together. There are two types of palm set provided with different design on the one piece molded four fingers to grip different types of weapons.

First post for new year (updates again)

First post of this 2012, what should i post? Well, i think i have to say these few lame words "happy new year" as the beginning of this post. I keep on asking myself, should i make a round up post or summary of what happen to this blog for year 2011? Lazy has been always my answer but i think i will make it soon since Chinese New Year coming soon and there will be lots of free time.

What am i up to now? Rushing the review for MG Hyakushiki, i always wanted to start this project and finally i'm to start it. Things goes pretty well now and hope nothing bad will happen. Extra caution have take for this project. I will talk more about this in its first WIP post.

As what are the new thing will come into this blog? Some renovation will begin soon. I already start planning what to add, change and the concept the entire layout. i felt a bit boring with the new space background and i guess its time to have it back on earth. There will be better navigation and more functional side bar which relate to GK and iShop2go. The last contest i did was not that successful, i know what are the reasons actually and i hope i can do better next time to convince my sponsor to improve more on the prize but one important thing.. i need support from you all.

Lastly, new chapter of my life should begin soon but no matter what... Gundam and Gunpla forever!!!

RG Aile Strike AIF version Complete

Finally, project Aile Strike AIF complete. I actually have a story about this color scheme which similar what waylander9 did on his Forgoten warrior. I had this kit during November if i'm not wrong and i has a lot of complain about this kit when i got it out of the box. Luckily the paint really done its job for helping me tightening the joints. I guess most of my complain solve except the palm issues. You might notice that this unit is left handed which is similar to my MC Hi-Nu Gundoom. The same thing happen which i screw up on the right palm. As for now, lets check out the painting list:

Color Scheme:

-Blue color (mixture of character Mr.Color blue and Mr.Color metallic blue)

-Red color (Mr. Color metallic red)

-Gold color (Mr.Color gold)

-Silver color (Mr.Metal Color Silver chrome)

-Black color (Mr.Color metallic black)

-White color (Mr.Surfacer 1000 white)

The color scheme almost original except for adding silver and gold color in. The yellow color has changed to gold since there are not much yellow color part (i lazy to prepare another empty bottle for pouring out the yellow color). Most of the inner frame was painted in either silver or gold and the rest are metallic black which hide beneath the armors. The concept of the inner frame color was inspired from a post in www.modelers-g.jp/ but that guy done it on PG Aile Strike. This is the first time i'm using Mr.Surfacer 1000 white to replace the Mr.Color white as white color because i was running out of white color paint and it is definitely a bad alternative solution. There are two reason explain why it is an bad alternative solution, first is the surface is easily crack after the paint dry (maybe the chemical material is different from normal paint) and second is it come in matte surface which is not friendly for panel line. The Mr.Color character blue somehow made the entire blue color look a bit glossy and the red color is a bit over vivid again which make it look more like blood red.

Another challenge come from this kit is the markings and foil stickers. Most of it is extremely small and not easy to hold for application. As for the panel line, i bought an 0.1 unipin fine line which i mentioned before but it still too thick for this kit. I guess it enough for my frustration on my project here since i actually quite happy with the end result :) and lets check out the photos (Story of the AIF is on the bottom of this post)

Here we are, the story of AIF Aile Strike. AIF stand for Advance Inner Frame system. There are two concept of the AIF which is improve the rigidly of the frame and improve mobility. The inner frame was build using lighter but stronger material such as titanium alloy and different from the conventional material. With lighter weight inner frame, from the power to weight ratio of the mobile suit improve which allow it to move and response faster in the combat. The lightness also improve the overall performance such as the operation power since lesser power was use for accommodate more weight from the conventional inner frame.

"This development actually done during the C.E 73 after the Jachin Due incident which is happen in C.E 72 Gundam Seed series. Although the GATX-105 Aile Strike has been destroy during that incident, some of its part were recover especially the combat data. Since most of the part has been torn apart, project AIF was launch to recover the original Aile Strike and this project was done by the Terminal (a Mobile suit manufacturer under Clyne foundation). This project was commence after Terminal stealing the project of Strike Freedom from ZAFT which using the gold inner frame. In order to fully utilize the potential of the Strike Freedom, Aile Strike AIF was develop as the test machine which using the similar new type of inner frame system in Strike Freedom. Project AIF only able to complete after the incident of Junius 7 fall into earth and AIF Aile Strike was use to defend Terminal in one of the asteroid space station after the escape of Eternal Supporting Battleship during C.E 74 when the Terminal was discover by ZAFT. After that, it was remain with Terminal as the test Mobile Suit for better improvement in inner frame development."

New lootz and updates (metal decal, solar turn table)

I guess it should go back to normal posting after few promotion post for both iShop2go and GK. So here we go, my new lootz. The paint was from local hobby shop while other such as the single action airbrush, decal and solar turn table are from M.G.S2u.com.

i only realize that i run out of white color when i start painting the RG Aile Strike and my solution was replace the color with Mr.Surfacer white (more detail on this later). Other color was bought as extra supplies as my next project after the RG Aile Strike don't need much of painting on the outer armors.

Alright, as for the single action airbrush, I bought this as the back up form my current airbrush. And the design of this airbrush is slightly different which it can attach to the empty bottle directly. Since its cheaper, i don't hope it can perform better than my current airbrush so let me test it and re-post this again later. By the way, i like direct attachment for the empty bottle to the airbrush because the step for cleaning the airbrush is easier before change to other color (just swap a bottle with thinner and spray for few second then change to other color, isn't this way is more simple).

And this is my favorite loots. This thing is like magic. Without any battery and turn on the light, it automatically turn. I heard there is another version made from China is a lot more cheaper but the seller said the stock will only reach by next few weeks. Man, if you're looking for some continuous turn table without wasting money on battery, this is the one. The only thing that made me feel not satisfy with this is the the size. I hope i can get something bigger.

Decal, decal, decal. Metal decal. I remember i saw this in one of the PG Strike Freedom but that set cost about US$ 20. As for this, it use for MG Astray Red Frame and it only cost me.... less than RM 5. Believe it or not. Haha.

And another best lootzzzzzzzzzzzz.... new toys. Well, it's not entirely mine and it belong to my company but as i'm part of the company, i have the right to use it for my personal usage.

Another important stuff, the flash. We don't have enough budget to get the original Canon series but this should be good enough, the Nissin 622 Mk 2.

Lastly, my own updates which affecting the blog. Lot of paint, massive masking and lot of MESS!!! The worst part is my painting station was totally...... speechless. All i can say now is, have to wait for another few days until all painting progress in my house complete and i will only able to continue the paint job on the RG Aile Strike.

Alright guys, for those who participate and ask about this contest, I want to say thanks to you all. Although there are not much participants in this contest due various reason but we really appreciate for those who like our facebook fanpage and share this contest out (although you can't participate).

Studies

Well, although i have finished my final few weeks ago and the result are all out ( pass all, hehe) but i still have final year project catching up in this short sem (already started). Things get more rush and stress for this single assignment compare to other subjects. Have to catch up for completing one chapter per-week for some market research topic. I still not sure will i able to complete it in time but with the pace i'm catching up, it should be able (I CAN'T SAY NO OR DELAY!!!). So, after completing this thing which due on 26th December 2011, there should be a real long break where i can start some huge project again ( i have some in my mind, try guess what it is, the clue is my favorite gundam series)

Hobby

Although the FAZZ have completed but i still owe someone a video which made for you guys too (it was quite fun for editing video) and have to start the RG Aile Strike painting process soon ( lot of thing to fix). The concept of the RG Aile Strike will remain its originality but i found some new concept for the color scheme recently (most of you has seen it before, the clue is from G.G site). At the same time, new review coming soon which is the MG Hyakushiki gold plated version (1st generation). That should be a simple project for me since there are so many things i have to do this month (follow up the FAZZ video and RG Aile Strike painting with my final year project). I pick that kit for this month review because most of the original part such as gold plated armors is my favorite and therefore, there are only few area require paint for the MG Hyakushiki which allow me to finish the kit faster than usual.

GK contest

So, the contest ended few days ago but i haven't make an ending post for it as there are something i have to confirm before making a ending post of the contest. And for those who participated, all i can say is thank you for your participation and your efforts will not be wasted. The ending post will be here within this week and the selected bloggers will be announce this or next week.

Work work

There are some changes with my freelance job and things might get more busy since there are many things are still in developing stage but luckily there are some people working with me.

Summary

All i can say is, it seems i'm quite busy this month but i will try to continue update this blog as frequent as usual and hopefully everything run smooth so that my time management can work well which allow me to post more thing here.

Alright, here we have the full coverage of GBWC 2011 Malaysia on start on 18th November 2011 to 22nd November 2011. Well, as what I heard from the organizer said there were about 80 participants joining in. Although it seems not everyone coming in but there are lot of awesome artwork coming from the participants. As this is a GBWC competition, we can see the competition was quite fierce as lot of the "monsters" (as what we seen from the ZD's champion list) are coming with their masterpiece. You can check on the list from ZD about the selected winners.

And as usual, sales for gunpla here was quite crazy with RM 83 for RG Aile Strike and a lot of more. If you looking for fair price in Malaysia, you may now try Litt Tak shop in Sungei Wang or you don't miss any event from them. Lets check out the pictures.:

As what we see from this pictures, the face of the gunpla world is changing. Even local distributors here starting to emphasize on modellers tools and supply which enable rookies (like me) can try lot of different crazy mod ( i hope i can do it)

First, we have ZD's custom HG Strike Freedom, he won the title for HG category but he was not there when the he was called to claim his prize, haha.

Another awesome masterpiece, simple but unique. Small with lot of details.

Another masterpiece from ( i don't know). Gorilla Sinanju that build from mostly (scratch build).

Remember the solomon express scratch build from Mr.Phoon, he actually create it with the diorama. Try to look at the texture of the entire diorama, the wave of the water, it is.. speechless.

Poor Thomas's track being step by Zaku, luckily it was not here, LOL.

Masterpiece from Mr. Ting (owner of M.G.S2u.com), the seller of the compressor i bought. Some people said it was a conversion kit. I'm not sure but what i'm sure is he always got the smoothest paint job. Clean and neat. I remember his advise, use the right thinner, surfacer, and be patient on cleaning and sanding.

The champion, Jeff Ho. I thought he was HowardKhor, haha. My mistake. Julius Lim told me about that he had won many prizes few years ago. One of his greatest masterpiece was the Zeong that made from many recycle printers part if i'm not wrong.

I don't who is him but he submit the form with me on the last day of registration. And he was quite good in King Of Fighter, LOL.

Alright, here we have the monster. The only 1/48 scale entry and it made from Julius Lim. Try to look at the surrounding of the diorama, coconut three, railway and the rivers, it really give the Malaysia Kampung (village) feel.

the most impressive thing that i found from his diorama was the water that he made. I was lucky to have a short discussion with him when i ask him what he use for the water. He told me it was the clear resin from a artshop call "multifilla" in Balakong which near to where i live (Bandar Sungai Long). He also tell me lot of thing about other entry that which entry is from which participant and how many title that they have claim. Man, I'm really hope he can take me as his "pupil", haha.

3rd day:

I remember i saw some similar mod with similar color scheme last year but the base kit was not MG Death scythe (MG Wing Zero custom if i'm not wrong).

As for me in this competition, i was hoping to get at least a consolation prize but looking at other work, next time maybe (not my turn yet) but i won't give up. It was a great experience from this competition. I know i'm not going to get anything there when i get there on the third day but surely, i get some experience and inspiration. Guess i need to work harder next time.

MG FAZZ Custom Complete!!!

It took me almost three months to complete it. It was another huge project for me since this is a huge kit with lots of part. Luckily I complete an ZZ gundam before and i can complete the ZZ unit in this kit without armor faster than i thought. The armor piece is not hard for painting process too. Detail of the painting process comes later. First, lets check out the paint and customize area.

The main unit without the armor was using:

-White (combination of Mr.Color White and Mr.Color Flat White)

-Black (Mr.Color metallic black)

-Grey (combination of Mr.Color white and Mr.Color Metallic black)

-Silver (Mr.Color Metal Silver Chrome)

-Iron (Mr.Color Metal Iron) for the inner frame and joints

Armor piece, Backpack and Hyper Mega Cannon:

-Blue (combination of Mr.Color Blue and Mr.Color Metallic Blue)

-Black (Mr.Color Metallic Black)

-Grey (combination of Mr.Color White, Mr.Color Flat White and Mr.Color Metal Iron)

-Silver (Mr.Color Metal Silver Chrome)

Base Coat:

-Mr.Surfacer 1000

Added Customization:

-Added M.S.G part

-Added extra part from the kit itself

-Added panel lines

-Decals are from the kit itself

It looks like there are lot of thing such as different types of paint, additional part from M.S.G and extra part from the kit itself. The color separation that i did also make me feels like i customize lot of thing into this kit. If you check the list, there are not much thing i added. I work mostly on the color separation and color scheme. What i emphasize more into this kit was added panel line that i scribe most of it in armor piece. That is what i done to this kit.

In terms of the painting process, mostly are on the color mixing. Massive masking needed for the armors (the plastic for this kit is a bit too soft so i decided not to separate those part that have connected). As i mention, I painted ZZ gundam before which mean painting this kit without armor can be a lot faster than painting the armors. Leg unit is the most tricky part for painting which make my compressor overheat during the painting process. I usually separate the painting process into few session which chest, waist, arms and head in one session, legs in one session, armor piece in one session and backpack with weapon one session. All armor piece were painted in one session and my compressor overheat for two times during the painting process. The only thing i feel from the painting process was it need lot of time and patient as there are lot of large size parts.

In terms of photography for this, "simple" is the only word i can describe. Since this kit can't do much pose, all i need to do is getting the best angle of this kit. Other than angle, lighting is another element need to be concern. That's all for the photography session. Some part swapping needed.

I set the beam rifle on the left hand so that the right hand can handle the Hyper Mega Cannon easily.

Somehow, i feel the kit look better without Hyper Mega Cannon but i feel it miss something without it.

My score for my work should reach about 70% since the masking process was not done well but the color scheme turn out as what i expected. Hyper Mega Cannon was the the only part that I'm not satisfy much. The worse mistake i did was picking the wrong background for the photo session. I should use black as the background and white as the floor.

Lastly, the decision had been made for Bakuc Malaysia entry selection and yes; this kit will go into Bakuc Malaysia by tomorrow. So, those who attend Bakuc Malaysia can see this in real by tomorrow.

Well, the picture above is not the kit i want to participate in Bakuc Malaysia, it just a ticket for my entry. I need to buy one product from the local gundam distributor in order to get the receipt as part of the entry requirement.

I actually prefer to put in FAZZ but i'm worry the schedule will be a bit tight since i still got the backpack, weapons, panel line and decal haven't complete. Therefore, MG Rezel might have higher chance but the custom Astray i had might able to create some surprise there with it custom MG Aile Striker. Really hard to choose. What's your call?

FAZZ Updates

Finally, it can stand on its own. Most of the parts are complete except the back pack and the weapon. I never expect the color scheme that i choose for this kit before the armor will look something like VPS off version mobile suit (from Seed) or RX-93 Nu. Luckily I decided not to add any yellow, orange or red in the color scheme or it look exactly like RX-93 Nu gundam color scheme but it already look like VPS off version mobile suit.

These are the picture before the armor attach on and it turn back into this anymore after i attach those armors (i worry it will scratch). Actually, I had complete painting the armor piece as well but there are some problem occur on the side plat armor from the shoulders. So i decided not to show the armor version with color yet and make the teaser below.

It should be complete by this weekend, the most challenging part for me now is the Hyper Mega Launcher (or what ever name it called) cause i never work with that before and there are lot of large piece parts.

Exams Are OVER!!! (check the poll)

Finally, I'm "officially" back. Just finish my exam today, the fifth subject of this semester. I can fully focus on my undone project now.

It will be study over if all subject pass.

So, the title of this post come with "check the poll" is to remind those who follow this blog to vote which kit should i review for the coming month which is November. The model kit that choose to be vote is MG Physalis GP02 (How should I spell it?), MG Sazabi and MG Hyakushiki. Three of this can be said as the antagonist mobile suit or Char's use mobile suit.

Found this photo from google, I''m not sure did the owner did anything to the peg but i check many review which didn't show it can pose like this. The only MG Sazabi version that can post like this was Keita's version which the legs can spread widely but he didn't make this pose from his Sazabi.

GP02 and Sazabi was the mobile suit I always want to get during my secondary school. I remember I saw MG Sazabi when I was in Form 3 in a gundam shop near my school, i'm totally impress with its design but I have no idea is it a Gundam or other Mobile suit; all i know is the design look cool. As for the GP02, the long large nuke bazooka or launcher with its huge and bulk design legs capture my attention when i saw it in Mid Valley few years ago. I was never think of what we call as articulation that time as this two kit was not made for great articulation but accuracy to look as similar as the anime.

I want this kit long time ago. ~~Should be the only MG that came with gold plated armor~~ (my mistake, there are MG Shining gundam in ~~berserk~~ hyper mode come in gold plated as well if i'm not wrong). Its rare to get one of this (i order it from a shop last time but i haven't collect it until now, hope the seller still keep it, haha). Well, the HD version and the Balut System version offer the similar design but i prefer the gold plated version. Remember i mentioned that i want to collect Z series mobile suit before, i have MG Zeta ver.2, MG ZZ, MG FAZZ Sentinel version, MG Zeta Plus A1, MG Zeta Plus C1, MG Mk2 ver.2 A.E.U.G and if i able to get this together, i should have complete my list accept those MG Rick Dom and MG Hizack. I still need to get MG Mk2 Ver.2 Titan version soon.

After 6 years working as promoter for selling camera, finally i have my own DSLR but it is not something new. Canon EOS 400D, about 5 years old model with EF-S 18-55mm and EF-S 55-250mm and still in good condition since my brother seldom use it and keep it in proper way. Should be good enough for me to capture what I want. I was not intended to get it for this hobby actually because the main reason that I get this camera is I want be freelance photographer. I might not able to capture what i want from the job but i can earn what i need to get what i want, LOL. What am I?.. haha..

Well, from now one i should be able to capture the effect that I want to create from this camera easily. Why i need that zoom lens? Just in case. Stay tune for some of my sample photo with this camera.

HG Genoace (My opinion)

When it introduce together with some Gundam Age preview or promo, all I think about this kit was simply design just for an weak grunt unit to be slaughter by the UE. Shape, weapon and almost everything look quite negative for me. It even worse when the first episode show that it can't even make a scratch on the UE and defeated easily. I totally feel disappointed on this. But when.... (refer to the third picture)

.. this picture appear, my mind change. Although it weak and the shape is not attracting, the articulation and posability design for this kit is great. The design is simple but it give lot of flexibility. I notice there are some upgrade of this MS coming soon which come in green color and the face look quite similar to the robot in"Real Steel" but I actually, still prefer this original design. It looks like it got lot of potential for modification but it can be tricky if want to keep the original mobility.

Another variation of it in white color which is custom use by certain important character. Haven't see it in action yet but from the weapon that it have which similar to the normal version, hope it won't as weak as the normal version. Like the normal Zaku and Char Zaku, both are the same Zaku with different color but it seems that the specs for Char Zaku is better. I think it should be same to this variation but of course, the plot skill is important too.

And the second gundam which will appear in the Gundam Age series. With it color scheme, I feel that the pilot of this gundam might be the pilot from the custom Genoace too. When I look at this gundam, there are only two things appear in my mind........

The color of the eye remind me shadow moon and..

the shoulder design remind me of Delta plus.

There isn't much information about this new gundam yet which it might be antagonist gundam too but it appear it serve the similar role like Delta plus. Lets wait for the next episode and you can view the first 6 minute of Gundam Unicorn 4 here.

RG Aile Strike Review Part 2

Alright, Part 2 is here. As what I mentioned from the previous post, I will try to cover articulation, proportion, detail and other about this kit.

First, check out the photo, the description will come later.

As what i know, there are two tone for some colors such as white and beige, red and dark red and even the inner frame come with two tone which semi gloss and mat.

The first ting I'm going to cover is the articulation,

Starting from the neck joint, ball head to connect the head unit to the neck and the neck is tilt-able.

Arm unit, approximate 120 degree?

Shoulder joint.

Two movable point for the elbow joint which make able to bend more than 90 degree.

One of the most important joint that allow it to do dynamic pose is the waist joint. Similar to MG format, the chest unit can tilt backward and forward, it can also turn roughly about (something in the pictures)

All waist armors are come with individual ball joint which allow it to move independently. Not using ball joint on the crotch or the peg joint and the slot for display stand is using clip type.

Side waist armors or armor schneider slot is one of the problem for the legs but if it remove, the legs can open up to 180 degree wide. (just like in the pictures)

And this is how it look like beneath the waist unit. The ball joint for the peg joint, a bit complicated here but don't worry because it all come in pre-assemble stage.

Another good thing for the feet unit is it can tilt upward and downward with additional joint break in the middle.

Half kneeling pose, checked.

Side kick, checked.( it can kick higher if not because of the side waist armors)

Overall, the articulation for this kit is not only good, butit might beyond what we think before we purchase this kit. The frame has beenspecial design to bring out all the excitement for the articulation but there aresomething that we need to take note about the joint. Although this kit is wellarticulated, the joint are not sturdier enough to hold the kit for long time. Isuggest that some of the tighten joint process must be done either by addingglue to the joint for making it thicker (you have to separate the joint intotwo part before apply the glue and let the glue dry before snapping back thejoint together) and sturdier or direct paint the joint which will alsohelp.

The next topic I want to discuss about is the detail of the kit from inner frame to armors. most of the plain area which have the potential for adding pla-plate, panel line or armor cutting was almost gone, why? Because most of this area had been line scribed, all part are molded separately and there are not much place for adding pin hole.

The cockpit are design same as the MG format but the pilot figure in sitting mode are not provided.

Unlike other format (except PG), every part of the thruster that come in different color are molded separately.

In terms of the inner frame, some of us might think that the inner frame was only focus on better articulation but as what i show in the photo above, it is an hydraulic pump.

The inner frame was also design with some mechanical detail.

As the arm bend, we can see the sliding inner frame mechanism.

The leg inner mechanism is not bad too. The photo above should be able to show the different tone of the inner frame as the inner frame are made from two types of runners which is the B runner and F runner.

Even with the armor attach on it, there are some detail of the sliding mechanism expose.

As what I mentioned, most of the armor already line scribed as shown in the pictures (above). So it really save a lot of time where we just clean the nub marks, prime and paint it.

If you feel headache on how to paint the thruster for the Aile Striker for other format (except PG), you won't get it from the RG. Inner thrusters part had been molded separately too.

Regarding on the weight issues especially the flight pack Aile Striker, yes it does have some problem with it. Although I can make it a normal standing pose but this pose will not last long in our display shelf if there are no support. The reason is from the inner frame of the MS kit itself. There are too many joint and the flexibility of the joints are slightly too wide. Unless those joints fix or getting a display stand for it, it can't stand alone for long term.

Lets check out some shot with pose and I will discuss about the proportion here after all these action shots.

In terms of the proportion for this kit, all I can say is well done. (I don't mind the articulation is as accurate as TV version, I will like it as long as it suit my taste). Even though this kit was well proportionate but I do some some modeler try to improve it such as wider chest and bigger shoulder, sharper toe and higher legs, and most of them did very well. As for me, I'm not good enough for that kind of mod and this is good enough for me. If you check the pose that i try to make, it was not as dynamic as Robot Damashi and it is something slightly closer to the Revoltech. I study the gunpla kit proportion from that, RD and Revoltech is my reference. I think most of us know, Robot Damashi go more on extreme high dynamic pose where Revoltech go for average dynamic post and both are extremely good in dynamic pose but revoltech win on normal standing pose because it is well proportionate for all kind of pose.

Last shot is to show how it connect to the display stand with it's own custom connectors. I'm not sure other RG are using the same connector as this is my first RG. Will try to post about this if I'm getting the RG Freedom soon.

So, last few topics are about modification, color scheme or kit bashing. As from the articulation, proportion and detail topic, this kit score pretty high. Therefore I don't think much modification needed for this kit to make it look better but some minor modification will make it look more impress which like what I mention about increase the size of the chest, shoulders and some mod on the toe and legs. Pla plate, line scrib or pin hole, not that necessary if it go for minor mod. Color scheme, it depend on the personal taste but i think painting this kit will not hard since most of the parts are molded separately. As for kit bashing, there are some reference from Hobby Magazine June issue where it show some sample of using RG Aile Strike convert into Strike Noir, Blitz and Strike IWSP. (instead of remastering the HG seed line for four upgrades which mod the color to HD color, additional part of display stand, packaging and adding marking, I RATHER HAVE ALL MAKE INTO RG!!!)

Last thing that I want to talk about is the clip from weapon and the weapon slot on the palm. It is not easy to handle especially the beam rifle, sometimes the fingers works better than those clip.

RG Aile Strike Review Part 1

My turn. I notice that quite a lot of people starting to work or review this kit recently. I'm not sure is it coincident or its the trend, i pick this to review because I think this is something lighter for me to review during my exam month but I think i underestimate the awesomeness of this kit. I've been reading some of the review about this kit (oops, haven't read Dalong's version but i read his RG RX-78 and i think it should be similar) and the actual touch on this kit compare to reading the review from other source is completely different thing. I was very exciting when i saw the announcement of this kit come in RG but i was quite disappointed when i look at the actual product (I'm not sure why, maybe i prefer 1/100 scale model more than 1/144 scale) and that's why i hold my decision of getting this after it release ( that is also the time i found it sell only RM 83 in The Mines event). Well, some of the intro about this kit must be made. (this is my official review, hehe). Lets see what i think on my first Real Grade.

The MS itself is come from the Gundam Seed series which released on 2003 and pilot by the main character Kira Yamato which later pass it to Mwu La Flaga after some serious damage with the Aegis gundam and acquire Freedom gundam after the battle. Since it is a main character's MS, the full potential of this kit was show with all its optional pack which are the Aile Striker (in this kit), Launch Striker pack and also Sword Striker pack (hope these will release in RG too). 2x Vulcan on head, Beam rifle, Shield, Armor Schneider (knife), beam saber and also Bazooka (only appear a while in the anime) are the optional hand carry weapon. Striker pack can be mounted on Skygrasper as support unit in the battle which allow Strike to change it striker pack for different weapon and also the battery of the MS. Lots of variation made from it from Seed to Seed Destiny, Stargazer, Astray series and other Astray series.

Lets talk about the model kit itself, it come in 1/144 scale in Real Grade (1/144 scale model with extremely well articulated inner frame).

3D or CG design boxart. Something new and it really show what is the actual product is by looking at the (top or front) of the box.

Indeed, it is "Excitement Emboddied"

Nothing at the back of the box but just some black shining glossy paint which i think it make it look more prestige in 1/144 scale model.

Total of 8 runners with no poly cap runner (Awesome). Almost or all part are molded into different part with different colors. If you want it in original color scheme, i don't think you need to do any masking. All parts for inner frame are in runner F and B (Advanced MS Joint), (er, not food and beverages). I'm not good in spotting the potential area for variation part in the runners, if anyone found it please tell. A normal 1/144 HG model will come no more than 5 runners (except for those big one like Kshatriya or Sinanju maybe) but RG come with more runners not only due to inner frame but also many different independent molded parts.

No dry transfer decal, all are marking stickers which can be easily apply.

The manual is not 2 pages folded type but in a booklet which similar to MG manual. I'm quite impressed with it.

And one thing that i notice from this new manual type is most of the area from the parts that connect or clip together with other parts are in pink colors which make us understand it easier especially for true amateur. As for the assemble process. it isn't that complicated but might harder for those who have big hand. There are lot of tiny little parts and I can't use much force on those part to assemble it because those parts are too tiny and I'm afraid that it's too fragile too.

Palm and fingers. Those fingers are great which come 1 joint within the fingers and another connect to the palm. There is also slot at the palm for weapons' clip to make it hold the weapons sturdier.

As show in the pictures, most of the inner frame are come in single part where certain area such as joint need additional parts from runner F. Skipping of assemble the inner frame really save a lot of time and seems more easier.

Complete Strike without back pack. The proportion look exactly same with the MG version right.

I think the parts for the RG Aile Strikers even more than the MG Aile Striker especially upper wings and adjustable thrusters. The joint for the upper wings seems more sturdier than the MG version (which i always have problem that the upper wing keep on falling down for the MG version).

Beam rifle is another interesting part. Color and parts separation is significant which if I want to make special color scheme on it, it shouldn't be hard and very less masking need.

The beam saber come with 2 types of holders which with clip and without clip (it means it got 4 holders for the beam saber). But the head that hold the beam only come with 2 unit.

Nothing much about the shield but my opinion, since this is a Real Grade there should be more separate part and color for the back of the shield.

The complete unit. One thing that I think most of you will notice is the shoulders flexibility was reduce after putting on the Aile Striker pack. It can't tilt higher and inner which make it look more dynamic or sexy like what we see in revoltech or robot damashi. (That is why Sword Strike and Launch Strike look sexier)

These are the additional parts, 2 x manipulators (fist type), joint or connector for the display stand and 1/144 Kira Yamato figure with his helmet off in his arm.

Last thing that I want to share in the first part of the review is the joint of the inner frame. There are some hidden joint within the inner frame, study the inner frame carefully will help but don't simply bend thing in it when you think that is one of the joint because.... it can be easily break if too much force apply. And most of the parts are really tiny, make sure your working environment is not messy during the assemble process so you can easily find your part if you lost it (just in case).
